Step 1: System Awareness

Through one-on-one guided coaching we will transform your complex challenge into an interconnected systems mandala, revealing leverage points, blind spots, and surprising insights you may have missed.

We use a proven tool, designed at the MIT Center for Systems Awareness. Your coach will guide you through the creation of this visual framework that brings strategy, relationships, and change dynamics into view all at once.

Modern leaders and changemakers often face tangled challenges: ambitious strategies with moving parts, multiple stakeholders, and shifting timelines. But if you're approaching it all with a horizontal, linear lens, you're only seeing half the picture…

What if you could gain systems awareness and strategic clarity in just one afternoon?

How is System Awareness different from System Mapping?

The difference is subtle but meaningful. A systems map is a diagram that shows how parts of a system relate to one another. It often uses nodes and arrows to capture feedback loops, leverage points, and causal relationships. Systems Awareness is the practice of observing, understanding, and working with the patterns, relationships, and feedback loops that shape a situation.

Where systems thinking focuses on mapping and analyzing the system from the outside, systems awareness asks us:

  • How do your perspectives, assumptions, and actions influence what you see?

  • How does the system, in turn, shape our thinking, choices, and actions?

It involves:

  • Zooming out to see the whole system and its context

  • Spotting connections between elements that may seem unrelated

  • Recognizing leverage points where small shifts can create big change

  • Balancing perspectives from data, lived experience, and intuition

By including yourself, your team and your stakeholders in the picture, systems awareness makes strategy more grounded, adaptive, and humane, enabling us to take wiser action.
